Likely to stay or bound to leave? Exploring prior work histories of correctional officer recruits

Despite the longstanding issues recruiting and retaining correctional officers, there is limited research examining the characteristics of those hired to work in our nation’s prisons. Specifically, little is
known about the occupational histories of those who are hired to work behind prison walls. Given the alarming turnover rate in this occupation and costs incurred by state departments when officer’s leave the job, which by all accounts are disconcertingly high, this omission warrants consideration.

The Moss Group is very excited to share an article written by a couple of our very own team members! This study borrowed an innovative method from organizational psychology to get a better understanding of why corrections officers might leave their positions. Join us as we congratulate Rollin Cook, TMG Project Director; Dr. Alexander Burton, TMG Consultant; and their colleagues on this publication!
